Following close on the heels of Sandhya’s arangetram came Hamsa’s dance recital. Hamsa’s parents wanted us to cover her special day as well and off we were !
Hamsa is a sweet and shy girl who excels in multiple artforms including Carnatic music and Bharatnatyam. When we first saw Hamsa on the day of her recital, We thought she might be nervous as most of us are before a big gig — but little did we know… There she sat in front of the mirror, getting her last minute make-up done and sipping on some Frooti like she was on the Caribbean beaches watching the waves crash onto the shore! When asked if she was scared to go up there and she just shrugged her shoulders ! “No one else would know even if I made a mistake ” … and she didn’t err even once !
The recital was delayed thanks to a bad traffic jam and people were pouring in slowly. Despite this, the Venkatraman clan was calm, cool and collected. Despite everyone else being late ( including the orchestra, videographer, chief guest and guests) the entire family was as cool as cucumbers and just getting stuff done ! Hamsa herself was walking behind the curtains, taking in the stage and prancing about right before her show began. Truly, hats off!
When the arangetram started Hamsa captivated everyone by her rhythmic and fluid movements. Her expressions and depiction of baby Krishna was something worth mentioning! After her effortless and graceful performance, her family and friends gathered to congratulate and bless her. As tradition goes, her guru also awarded her with her dance completion certificate. All’s well that ends well, we believe!
