The Meraki Pictures team had an opportunity to cover a musical extravaganza. This was a charity show organized by the Seattle Chapter of CRY (Click here to check out their work and see ways you can help) featuring the band Shruti.

Shruti is a South Asian band that provides a channel for live musical entertainment of South Asian music in the U.S. while bringing awareness to socio-economic issues and raising funds for non-profit organizations. The show was very well organized and the skill and rehearsal showed from the flawless and effortless delivery of song after song by the band. The enamored audience delivered the applause due! The connection was evident as folks broke into a dance as the songs raced into a faster dance beat and they definitely got their money’s worth!
Backstage, the scene was relaxed and if one strolled into the green room, they would hardly believe that there was a live show in progress. The talented band members were chatting, joking, posing for pictures and to put it straight – ‘chilling’ out! It was fun hanging out with them backstage –They are a fun bunch with no airs and with a super cool attitude!
The show was presented by two fantastic EmCees who paced the show with their wit, humor and trivia and kept the audience engaged as the band prepared for their next number.
We’ve been to CRY events before and CRY Seattle does a fantastic job of organizing these charity events. They fund a number of childrens’ welfare programs and through the show, the audience gets a chance to see the work that their money funds and they also get a chance to pledge funds. One of the things to look for at CRY Seattle’s charity events is the auction where the audience members bid for the song of their choice and the band performs them live – it’s a great idea that always gets the crowd engaged and also helps to collect funds.
We had a great time covering the event and were treated to some marvelous renditions – thanks to CRY Seattle and Shruti. We can’t wait for the next time when we get to hear this talented lot again!
