Raahi turns three !

The mellow sun streamed through the bare trees and cast gentle shadows in the parking lot of the YMCA at Newcastle. There was a nip in the weather. We saw excited kids in their jackets, bundled up and running in to the building to get to Raahi’s party. The YMCA lobby was agog with joyous screams and constant chatter from the little ones!

When we reached the birthday venue, we saw Raahi sitting under a huge Thomas the Train poster. I wished him a ‘Happy Birthday’ and asked him how old he was and he immediately stuck up three fingers! “I’m that many”, he said, happily chewing into fruit! The place was impeccably decorated to the theme of ‘Thomas the Train’. Ribbons, balloons and posters in red, white and blue adorned the walls. The table had a Thomas the Train printed sheet on it with party hats and plates neatly arranged for when all Raahi’s friends would come and eat his birthday cake and goodies. The party menu looked inviting with kid-friendly food fiesta—juices, chips, fruits, cheeses and candy! The cake was a huge tower of cupcakes, in various flavors and a Thomas the train face on it; oh, how the kids were fascinated by it! A little toy train ran around the cake while the kids screamed ‘choo, choo’ excitedly every time it completed its trip!

As Raahi’s friends and their parents started pouring in, the party truly took off. The kids even had a lovely play area to themselves, which had a fun house, ropes, slides, tons of toys and a nook to read wonderful books! Raahi, the avid bibliophile, was being treated to some great books while the other kids were seen building Lego buildings, painting, jumping in the fun house and chasing one another. Finally, it wa time to blow out the candles, make a wish and cut the cake. A loud chorus of ‘Happy Birthday Raahi’ filled the room followed by some great party food! After the cupcakes were devoured, the kids promptly ran to the playhouse to expend some of that sugar rush while the adults chatted and caught up on life! Soon it was time to say good-bye and our big boy who had just turned three looked very happy and content with his special day! Mom, Ankita and dad, Gunjan who had taken the pains to throw such a perfect birthday party for the little people sure looked tired but all that fatigue vanished once they saw little Raahi’s happy face!
