Sumana & Deb’s Silver Jubilee

As Love gets more fragile in today’s world, this dynamic couple shines some light on how to hold on to your loved one and keep a marriage going! Celebrating 25 years together, Sumana and Deb show us how they lovingly tease each other, pull each other’s leg and even call each other names after a quarter century of married life. One can see the strong yet gentle love that binds these two when even in a room full of people, their eyes still look for the other. When they meet, their smiles reach their eyes; secretly they hold hands and at the drop of a beat, they start dancing together! If this isn’t love then what is?

These childhood lovers have a wonderful love story! They met at Deb’s house; a time when Sumana used to go for English tutorials to Deb’s dad; and that’s when he noticed her for the first time! She ignored him till she went to high school (he was doing his engineering back then) and then cupid struck! They got to know each other better and friendship gradually turned to love. When asked what their secret to marriage was, Sumana said, ‘Deb and I have always tried our best to be by each other’s side. Other than the relations of husband and wife, we share a great relationship of friendship.’ This and other things they do, constantly make you go ‘awww’.

The silver jubilee party, thrown by their friends was nothing short of a wedding—everyone partook in the festivities! The house was beautifully decorated and every family brought along some delicious Bengali dish. When the couple of the hour entered the house, they had a grand welcome and Sumana and Deb were quickly whisked away by their friends to change and they decked them up like a true Bengali bride and groom, ready for marriage! Lots of photo ops and some photo booth madness later, the fun gang assembled in a huge hall, which was decorated with streamers, large words that spelled out ‘Sumana weds Deb’ and a TV that flashed pictures of the adorable couple. There were two grand looking chairs for the couple of the hour to sit and watch a skit put together by their enthusiastic friends, depicting their love story from yore to date! Their friends even made them mock-marry again by garlanding each other and taking the pheras (sacred walk around the fire). Post the skit, everyone broke in to song and dance…love flowed through the room! A grand dinner was set up for the couple after the entertainment and a beautiful cake depicting a Bengali bride and groom was cut to end the wonderful evening!
